The early 80’s saw the popularity of engineering jobs in Dubai, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jeddah and many other places in the Middle East. This is the time when many graduates and even undergraduates from Asian countries have pointed their attention in employing in these places. Many of them who were able to catch the Middle East fever earned a lot of money taking them home to their native land. This is also the time when Engineering courses became a very popular option to take in college.
Today, however, it is different. Dubai and other Middle East countries as well as European countries have demanded workforce bound to work as nurses. This situation made these jobs the most popular destination for college students. Although this is the case in the labor industry for OFWs in the Philippines and in other Asian countries, engineering field never ceased to be a part of the need for professionals and skilled labor outside of Asia.
In UAE for example, it is still a very popular work to apply for because Dubai is a very fast growing economic zone for rising businesses that is based in high rise buildings. This instance helps maintain a balance for Engineer professionals and skilled workers on the waiting mode for more job offers bound for Dubai.
In relation to this situation, a co-worker I have in the amusement where I used to work as an electronics technician, just got a job offer in the supposed 2010 race track being made for the F1 RACE which is about to take place there. He is just one of the professional engineering board passers here in the Philippines who got lucky with getting a slot to fill related positions in Dubai and he obliged without hesitation to come there and work.
Dubai has been home to many wonders in all sorts and types of work and that will always include engineers from building constructions to office works. Aside from this condition, it is also expected that in the year 2010, there will be more jobs generated for neighboring Asian countries like Vietnam, China, Pakistan, Philippines and more. I have even seen some European nationals opting to work in the place because of the cool environment and favorable condition in the business climate there.
Licensed and board passer engineers are plenty in the Philippines and I am personally hoping that this relation will continue to boom and provide more engineering work in Dubai and other countries that lack the manpower and professional skills needed to fill up positions.
