A construction job in Dubai and other popular middle east countries have given so many OFWs and also from other places in the world, mostly, Asia a decent job that pays enough to make a worker’s family live a little bit above the poverty line in their home country. In the case of the Philippines, however and in my own personal experience when I worked in a hotel that is under construction.

I learned that there are many co-workers I had from the construction came from working abroad. Most of them worked in Saudi Arabia and Dubai where the construction of big buildings never seem to stop. They all earned what they deserve and there are also a few bad experiences that we cannot put aside but instead must learn from.

I also learned that they have work in different fields and positions in Dubai, UAE and Saudi Arabia and I can still see the fruits of their labor from the tangling jewelries that they have in their neck and fingers. They all told me about each of their own unique stories while working in a foreign land and I learned from their experience that they almost made me want to get out of the country just to go find greener pasture.

Although it all only makes me thank myself and my family that I didn’t pursue a work in the construction sites in Dubai, I am glad because I now have a work here in the Philippines that pays more than what a construction job can give me. Now don’t get me wrong for telling you about this because believe me or not, this job didn’t take me a week or a month to learn.

It took me years (4 years to be exact) before I finally decided to be here for the rest of my life and enjoy developing my talent here. I spent maybe hundreds of thousands and even millions of ticks in the clock before I got here. We all have our different boxes to fit in and it doesn’t necessarily mean that if I can be successful here that you will also have the same fate. Everything is all up to you or us when we make the decision. A construction work in Dubai or in Saudi Arabia can be a good start for some and for some it may not be but there is always a time to try things out to see if it fits the shoe.
